About our visit to the Mi Nuevo Hogar shelter
We realized that the children were happy not only because of the donations, but also because of the company that we gave them that day.
After delivering the books "Paquita la alpaquita" and "Bongo el otorongo" to the Mi Nuevo Hogar shelter, we realized that this place was just beginning its mission to help children with cancer. It was a small house, so we decided to help them by collecting donations. After several weeks, we got clothes, toys, stuffed animals, school supplies, and groceries to deliver, and we went to visit them.
At the shelter we met Josué, who came from Huánuco with his mother to receive chemotherapy at INEN. He was very excited about our visit, he helped us put together the "Thomas" train track and then we played together. Of all things, he loved a warm hat, because he said it would keep him warm when he returned to Huánuco as it is very cold. He also chose a teddy bear to bring to his sister, since he had promised her one for a long time.
We also met Liliana. She was very young and shy, but very brave. Little by little she became more comfortable with us, as she loved all the different stuffed animals that we brought. She was hugging a colorful owl all afternoon and she loved playing with the trains.
We realized that the children were happy not only because of the donations they received, but also because of the company we gave them that day. After so long in quarantine, it was really nice for them to spend a fun afternoon with other people. We will continue to help them in every way that we can in the future, the children who arrive and their families, those who accompany them in Lima and those who wait for them back in their provinces with open arms.
Speaking with the people in charge of the shelter, we promised to help them with their Christmas mission: to collect more donations for the children to take home as gifts and to build a Christmas tree that they didn't have. Help us meet this goal!
